Simon Pooley
Born in Macclesfield, Simon Pooley has lived in Cornwall for nearly 20 years and has been painting full time for all of that period. He works from a studio he built himself, near the cove of Lamorna.
Simon’s strengths of draftsmanship and composition were formed in the years he spent working as an architect. However, it is his use of colour, often in layered and over-painted blocks, that define his paintings. Paring the Cornish landscape down to its basic shapes and forms, he captures the contrasting seasons, weather and light in paintings based on memories of his own experiences around the coast. The work shown in On The Edge result from a series of sketches made near Perranuthnoe, a small cove a couple of miles east of Penzance.
Simon is a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists. His paintings have been exhibited nationwide.
