The work of Michael Praed and John Piper is rooted in the coastline and landscape of the Land’s End peninsular. Protective harbours and rugged cliff formations together with isolated farm buildings and lonely moorlands are the starting points for their work. Both have exhibited their paintings throughout Cornwall, nationally and in continental Europe since their early twenties and in recent years have held a number of joint shows. The Penwith Gallery enables them to exhibit larger pieces of work as well as smaller more intimate studies, nearly always in oils and either on board or canvas.
