Jennifer Semmens
Jennifer Semmens was born in Cornwall in 1964 and studied at Falmouth College of Art. After a spell outside the county at Gloucestershire College of Arts and Technology in Cheltenham, she returned to Cornwall to take up painting professionally. She lives in Penwith in the far south-west.
Taking inspiration from the industrial areas of west Cornwall, Jennifer paints in a semi-abstract style. Her subtle use of natural colours and the rough texture of her paintings evoke the rugged beauty of the landscape. Unusual architectural shapes loom out of work that is otherwise formless, just as derelict engine houses and their chimneys appear out of the misty moorland. She captures the power and atmosphere of the Cornish countryside, as well as its often dramatic isolation.
Jennifer is a long-standing member of the Penwith Society of Artists and exhibits at their gallery in St Ives. Her work has been exhibited throughout the West Country, in London and across Europe. Jennifer’s paintings are widely collected and are held in several collections nationwide.
