David Moore
David Moore was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1941 and after studying at Burslem College of Art and the Royal College of Art, he returned to Staffordshire to work as an industrial ceramicist for several years. Later he became a teacher of Art and Design, a role he continued with for 23 years. While his background and training was in design, it was painting and drawing that always fascinated David. Trips to St Ives in the early 1960s helped develop an interest in the painters abstract art movement that had developed in the area. Today David lives in the town, paints from a studio near Porthmeor Beach, and is a member of the reknown Penwith Society of Artists. "My art work is still somehow connected to the idea of landscape although a strong impulse towards the plasticity and asthetic quality of oil paint can dominate in the actual process, producing a more emotionally charged result. Essentially abstract, my paintings record experiences of how texture and balance, depth of field, and colour have become the prime motive in my work." |
