Lincoln Kirby Bell

Originally from South Australia, Lincoln Kirby Bell studied there, and at the Royal College of Art. He travelled widely, occupying a series of studio residencies across the globe, including one in St Ives in 2007. Now settled in Cornwall, he works from his studio in Newlyn, just over the road from the harbour and fish market.

In the short time that has passed since his arrival in the county, Lincoln’s ceramics have gained a following and a recognition as strong as those of any contemporary potter in Cornwall. The bold and contrasting use of colour creates an exuberant effect. The liberal application of decoration adds a textural dimension. The spots, spirals, circles and stripes that predominate reflect influences of both Aboriginal culture as well as those of the numerous archaeological excavations Lincoln has worked on across Central and South America.

Lincoln’s work can be seen in galleries across Cornwall. It has been exhibited, and is collected, nationwide.
