Daphne Turner was born in Warwickshire. She always harboured an interest in drawing and painting but it wasn't until she moved to West Cornwall in the late 1980s that this ambition was realised. Over the next 30 years she studied at the St Ives School of Painting while also exhibiting her work widely, at Open Studios and in local galleries.
Daphne's semi-abstract paintings result from the tin mining landscape of Penwith. The tunnels in the layers of rock below the land and the sea provide starting points, as do the derelict and rusting engine houses. Tramway is deeply evocative of this post-industrial landscape, in both its tones and textures. The painting is unframed.
